Yes, Hawaiians DO pay more taxes

....relative to the rest of the nation. In fact, Hawaii ranks second of all the states, according to the US Census Bureau.

Per capita (per person), Vermont leads all the states with a whopping $3,600.16 in taxes per person. Next is Hawaii, with $3,477.93 per person. Wyoming, Connecticut, and Minnesota round out the top five states.

Yet, in spite of the heavy tax burden, the legislature and city of Honolulu want to tax Hawaiians even more. How do the following states operate while demanding significantly less taxes from its residents?

The lucky residents of the following states have the least amount of total state taxes- Missouri (46th place),  Colorado, New Hampshire, Texas, and lastly, South Dakota- with only $1,430.46 per person.

This information comes to you courtesy of the US Census Bureau: http://www.census.gov/govs/statetax/05staxrank.html
