One of the biggest problems in politics is the absence of accountability that legislators enjoy. Because most of them are focused on being reelected, they find numerous ways to hide or point fingers at others. A good example is to appoint a commission to handle some problem. If the public gets upset about what the commission does or does not do, the legislator can tut-tut and say "gee the commission misbehaved". But what if we insisted that all actions of commissions had to be approved by the legislature before they could go into effect? Now there is no place to hide, particularly if the commission's actions were sunsetted after 5 years or so. What do you think?
